Sunglasses

I think this sailor in sunglasses was tying to impress with his muscles,
but everyone's eyes are immediately drawn somewhere else.

  1. Well, now we know why the US Navy provided a jockstrap with its kit. These aren't the most supportive of garments. I do know that in the 1950s these were in fact of Israeli manufacture. (Post independence Israel went into cotton production big time, one of the craziest of ideas as cotton needs huge amounts of water.) I now cannot remember if the army did likewise. The Royal Navy did so, to avoid injuries when the ratings were moving the heavy deck equipment - and manoeuvring the guns. You can easily see why the late '50s and early '60s saw a revolution in men's underwear.

    1. Not only does cotton suck up huge amounts of water, but it also depletes soil nutrients at an alarming rate. Yes, a major upgrade in design was called for, and correct me if I'm wrong, but I think even some basic Y-front briefs got a makeover at some point to make them more supportive.
