Don't look at the sun
Our last photo in this group of tumblr residue is a guy sheilding his eyes from the sun.
This looks amateur, but did amateurs use posing straps? And he may be on a sand dune.
When visiting the Auvergne, France in the early 1980s, I saw a brochure advertising spa treatments. The male clients wore posing straps like this. As a 20-year-old, I wish I'd tried it.
I doubt from the subject's build that it would be a professionally shot image. Perhaps it was a nudist colony and the strap was for the benefit of the camera.
Jerry, your blog is special to me for a number of reasons, but mainly because it contains a significant amount of historical information from you and your readers about the photographers and models. But I also really enjoyed this series of "odds and ends." Glad you shared them with us. Nick
The posing strap is a little unusual if amateur. Perhaps a European seaside spa? I've similar images where sunbathing is part of the treatment.
ReplyDeleteI just remembered that I've seen those straps used at both spas and seaside resorts in very early 20th C. Germany.

DeleteInteresting that they were in use that recently.

ReplyDeleteSee David's comment above and my reply.
DeleteThe strap really does not hide anything, I'd say. If it was a nudist camp, why would he strap up?
ReplyDeleteAgree about the nudist angle, and yes, he does fill it quite well.
