The hairstyle in this Allyn Cox pencil drawing puzzles me.
Is it a reference to Classical antiquity or 1940's hipsters? Probably neither.
He looks like he's wearing one of those wigs that judges and barristers used to wear in English courts of law. But why, in a nude study, is anybody's guess.
Hmmm . . . interesting point. Cox did paint courthouse murals and one for a law school, but in the USA, not the UK. Perhaps he was going for the deeper history of American law? Or the late 18th C. when lots of men wore wigs?
