My guess is that this is a Renaissance work or a copy of a Classical piece.
Hermann Wilhelm Bissen 1798-1868: The wrathful Achilles, 1864-66. Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek, Copenhagen. Apparently the Carlsberg family does more than brew beer; they also have a significant art museum.
Thanks, Tom. The Victorians usually used fig leaves, so this one completely threw me as to era. But then he was German or Danish, so that might make a difference.
