I gotta say, my dad worked for years in the mines, and the mills. I have seen many a mine and mill shower, but never saw anything like this. Mind, I like it, but this must have been more accepted in Europe than here in the States.
Pre-WW2 Americans were actually less prudish than their continental counterparts. And male nudity where it made sense (e.g., showers) only became taboo in the 80s and 90s.

ReplyDeleteYou could have a point. I have found only a few similar photos from American sources, and the men don't seem nearly as engaged with each other.
