1950 Ford
These two fellows are washing their 1950 Ford, the same car my family
used until we got a new 1956 Fairlane. My father was a hard core Ford man
all his life, mainly because of their indestructible pickups.
Those were the days when there were Ford and Chevy men. Who ever heard of a DeSoto or Hudson man? Was a shirtless man washing his car analogous to a shirtless cowboy washing his horse? There was some kind of bond... That model was a homerun for Ford.
They did sell a lot of those. My grandfather had the same car in the same color, and I would sometimes climb into the wrong one as a toddler. Oh, and he was a Ford man, too.
I was raised by my grandparents, and they had a 1949 Ford until they bought a new 1954 one. I sure liked those older cars better than what is offered today. So much cheaper to run and repair.

ReplyDeleteI believe the '49s still had an optional sun visor for the windshield.
DeleteMy dad had a 53 Ford. Don't miss whitewalls a bit, what a PITA to keep clean. I think these guys are soldiers-Dee Exx
ReplyDeleteYes, I also think they are military.
DeleteMy dad in 1955 bought the same Ford 1950 in dark green. It was a real tank undestructable...
ReplyDeleteThey were indeed indestructible. Ours got driven across rocky pastures and down roads that some four wheelers might hesitate to pass.
