Indoor boxing
My other photos of Eakins' students boxing are all outdoors and with gloves.
If you look closely, I think we can see a pair of gloves hanging at upper right.
Bare knuckles boxing was still practiced at the time this was made, but had they actually been boxing instead of posing, I think they would have worn the gloves. Athletic pursuits were popular among Eakins' students.
A la grecque...except that they're not wrestling. If the Greeks had had boxing, it would have been done naked, I'm sure.
