You're all used to playing "guess the photographer" on this blog, but today it's a case of
"guess the painter." I found ten unattributed male nude paintings in my collection, and some,
like this one, do have clues. My source says it is French from 1816, leaving me wondering
how they might have an exact year and nationality, but no name. Oh, well.
Jerry, this is the first painting I've ever seen that has The Shadow! Cool!
ReplyDeleteWe've seen it in drawing before, but this may indeed be the first painting.
DeleteGorgeous. Superbly naturalistic. Deeply inspiring. Thank you Jerry.
ReplyDeleteThis is “Study of a Nude Man,” 1810-12, by Théodore Géricault, in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York
ReplyDeleteThanks! I have other works by Geircault, and the style matches.
DeleteI thought so, I do have a postcard of it somewhere in my collection from when I was in college in the late 70s.
