VW
Both the man and the car are classics. My cousin had an early 60s Beetle, and the battery was under the back seat. A mechanic told me that there was no room for it in the engine compartment.
Under the seat was a great place for the battery. My VW's battery lasted at least twice as long as the ones in the engine compartment of my Rambler. I suppose the difference was not having the heat and vibration.
There was that VW ad, where the car had a flat tire. The caption said, "Nobody's perfect." Well, this proves that ad wrong. Damn!

VW had some great ads back then.

ReplyDeleteThanks for your personal perspective. The longevity vs. placement contrast makes sense.
DeleteThis is a de-colored version of the photo that Bruce Weber took of Joseph Sayers for Abercrombie and Fitch in 2002.
ReplyDeleteWell, it certainly looks older than that in black and white.
DeleteYes, it does, doesn't it? It could easily have been taken in 1968 or 1970.
