Tony Sansone, Unattributed

It's no secret to those of you who know me that Tony Sansone is one of my all-time favorite models.  Most of his modeling work was done for Edwin Townsend and Earle Forbes in New York, but I have a considerable number or photos of him with no photographer attribution.  So today I will post some of them in hope of getting some information about them.

  1. Tony Sansone is certainly one of those models I like to linger over..

  2. A million thanks for these amazing pics. He is my alltime favorite as well, and I don't think Sansone gets the attention he deserves in physique blogs and books. I have a copy of this pic in my own file, no photographer listed, but I have a date of 1924. I found it on the Etsy website with this date, but can't confirm that date in an absolute way.

    1. You're welcome! Thanks for the date. By most accounts, Tony began modeling as a teenager, so it is possible the picture was made in 1924. He looks more mature than that, but some guys mature earlier.

  3. Tony Sansone (born 1905) was blessed with the facial features and also the physical build that was regarded as the epitome of masculine beauty in his generation and for his time. He still conjures up the 1920s from seemingly nowhere a century on.

    1. Tony won a male beauty contest sponsored by Charles Atlas in 1923, but wasn't a competitive bodybuilder. He did work out, but had those natural lines that are so much better than the grotesque shapes we see in today's bodybuilders.
