Yes, we really do get waves like that here in Hawaii . . . as well as white haired surfers.
Oldsters were the only ones who could afford to travel to Hawaii in those days. Except maybe military personnel and their dependents. My grandparents went to Hawaii before the war on the Matson Line's SS Malolo in 1936, that started the Hawaii bug for our family. Years later jumbo jets and discount fares arrived, and we all could go to paradise!...:)
