Odd . . . really odd
I've had this picture for years, and I've never been able to figure out why
the photographer posed the model draped sideways over a little footstool.
Or perhaps a study for a 19th century Classical Style sculpture, similar to "The Dying Gaul". 19th century sculpted nudes could be an interesting topic. The Shelley Memorial at Oxford is, despite its subject, a stunning nude!
It’s likely a vignette detailed study for a portion of a painting to be done.
ReplyDeleteThat makes sense.

DeleteAndrew makes a good point. Several prominent sculptors of that era used photographic studies in their work.
DeleteNot a comfortable position to hold. So, yes, probably a sculpture reference.
DeleteA great hip stretch.
ReplyDeleteIndeed.
