Phaeton

Harry Bush called this one "Phaeton" who was the son of a water nymph.  It borders on the abstract, and the subject looks like 1950s physique model Jack Thompson.

  1. "Phaeton" means "shining" or "radiant," which this male is. Interestingly, Bush shows him as circumcised, which an ancient Greek would not have been.

    1. Harry could get quite literal, so his modern model may have been cut.

  2. Well, many artists who draw take inspiration from photographs.
Maybe Bush collected physique photographs or magazines.
Are those flames licking around Phaeton to accentuate his brilliance
or from the fact that when he rode to his death commanding his father's chariot
and in the process scorching the earth and creating its deserts. -Rj
