By the time Stanley Stellar made this photo in 1983, men were dying from a terrifying new disease.
The Piers scene was ending, and they were demolished not long after.
Have been checking out some of the photographers you were mentioning. Lots of good stuff! Thanks. Unfortunately most of Stanley’s work is out of print and/or sold out. Probably because of a recent documentary about him. I can not locate a copy of his book The Piers. But will keep looking.
Thank you for this series. This photo resonates with me because it reminds me of how much I should know, but don't.
