A. Exner
This well oiled boxer was photographed by A. Exner. Were the Germans the first to oil athletes
to help define muscles in the images? I think this predates by quite a bit the
American trend to oil bodybuilders for physique photographs.
Early days of photography required a lot of light because films were less sensitive. So perhaps this is due to having to stand perfectly naked under strong lights for a while which would make the model sweaty. (and they weren't LED lights, they were pretty hot lights back then). (just a theory).
He IS shiny, isn't he? Does his bush look shaved?
ReplyDeleteI don't think he shaved down there, but all that grease may have slicked it down.
DeleteThis guy is named Hans Suren, have a google
ReplyDeleteThank you! Very interesting, and only now do I realize that I have other photos of him.
DeleteJa, Hans Suren.
DeleteTraurig zu sagen, dass er ein Nazi wurde.
That is indeed unfortunate.

ReplyDeleteGorgeous pose. I rather like the full oil look here.
