Physique Week, Day 1 - Flexing Models
Kicking off Physique Week with some prime models depicted by five of my favorite photographers
in a variety of classic flexing poses. We start with Ray Harper by Dave Martin.
RAY HARPER was a Body Builder who posed Nude for Dave Martin outdoors in 1955. Harper was a popular model from the Bay Area. A small sticker attached to the reverse by Martin described Harper as having interest in baseball, weightlifting, and that he worked out at the Market Street Gym in San Francisco. The most interesting tidbit about Harper is that he was a Divinity Student, studying for the Ministry at the same time that he posed for nude physique photographers like Martin and Russ Warner. RAY HARPER did in fact become a Minister shortly after this Photo was shot.!! Dave Martin had that fact also on his note card for RAY.!
Wow, those abdominal veins are lovely...What a man..
ReplyDeleteReally a favourite of mine , although I have seen very few photos of him !
ReplyDeleteI have a total of eight, and all the others are by Russ Warner . . . which makes me wonder if this one is by him, too?

Now the bit about him being a minister is very interesting. I'm guessing he was a Unitarian or one of the other more liberal denominations.
DeletePerfect physique... wow!
ReplyDeleteI read the name and thought "Already using comic book characters for pseudonyms. That was speedy." Then I re-read the name.
ReplyDeleteNice abs tho.
I like the goldih cast to this shot...among other things! ☺
