Unconventional

I don't think I've ever seen a modcl posed quite like this in academic art before.
The undated 19th Century work is by Alexander Ivanov.

  1. Certainly an unconventional twist not usually see in academic works. I rather like the way it shows the abdominal development.

  2. seems this is one study for the painting "The Apparition of Christ to the People (The Apparition of the Messiah)"

the pose is quite similar to a male nude at the center right of the painting

    1. Thanks! I followed the link, and I'm sure that's exactly correct. I always enjoy it when knowledgeable people fill us in on something I post.

  3. It is a pleasure to enrich the conversation!

By the way, what about a series on Aleksandr Deyneka?

He did a lot of male nudes in Stalin's time (even a mosaic at Moscow's metro).
My gaydar goes on high gear over him and his paintings...

    1. I have a few of Deyneka's works in my files, but not enough to do a full series. If you could help me out with more, I would very much appreciate it. You can reach me privately by using the contact form at the upper right of this page.
