Gary Seegar

This Mel Roberts photo of Gary Seegar is one of the most unusual postal censor dodges that I've seen.  Just about all the pre-1968 photographers used posing straps, there were all manner of strategically placed towels, bedsheets, tree branches, hands, etc, and Champion used see-through and mesh underwear.  This is the only instance I've seen, however, of a male model using what looks like modified fishnet pantyhose.  Oh well, whatever it takes as they say.  And fwiw, Gary doesn't seem to be at all bothered by it.  Maybe they let him keep the spiffy matching net T-shirt.

  1. This ploy actually got by the censors? Wow, that's wild!

    1. We'll probably never know. The legal environment was in such a state of flux in the late 1960s that it might not have mattered by the time the picture was actually distributed.

    2. Even then California was more tolerant than most states at that time in the 60s, that probably had a lot to do with it. Also, the censors passed rules that were arcane and contradictory and open to various interpretation. You notice in those days; they would go after the gay mags and hardly ever the girlie mags. And of course, the rank hypocrisy of those that cry for censorship, some caught up in their own scandals far worse than a nudie picture. -Rj/IE

  2. What a bizarre outfit. However, if it help beat the postal censors then fair play and at least it doesn't deprive us of the very welcome sight of the lovely Gary Seegar in all his glory.

    1. I have a feeling that Mel Roberts may have been trying to be over the top. It was the 60s after all.

  3. That Gary Seegar is one fine specimen of a man! Movie-star looks and that jawline reminds me of a Tom of Finland character. He’s one of my favourites!
