At 1874, this painting by Camille Bellanger is the outlier among latest documented works
featuring our model. While he does look somewhat older than he did in 1860, I'd say he aged
well for the era. That might be because modeling was far less taxing than the manual
labor most men of his social class would have done at the time.
He's looking good.. As ever with models of the era, I wonder how he achieved and maintained his physique. He's quite evenly developed..fascinating..
ReplyDeleteI hardly think he went to a gym, and it just occurred to me that his gig as a model may have been a second job. Despite the remarkably large body of work he did, It may not have been enough to keep him constantly modeling for 14 years, and his main line may have kept him fit. On the other hand, some guys are just lucky that way.
