1970
It was 1970 when these men got together on Fire Island. I was busy getting tear gassed at anti-war protests in Austin at the time, but I wasn't ready to join them anyway.
(btw, I didn't think that fashions were quite that wild in the early 70s....i was only 6 back then.....but the guy on extreme right....seems like those shorts are from the mid-80s!)
While most Americans weren’t wearing them yet the French and some forward thinking people, including gays, were already into the small brief style by 1970. It’s an easy search in Google. And fun to look.
I disagree. Speedos were in vogue briefly (so to speak) in the 70s and other tight-fitting trunks, even among straight guys. Then in the 80s GQ magazine went "straight" and we were assured that what baggy, knee-length trunks were what the girls found really sexy.
A scene out of California and Florida too. And the USA had Ah Men of LA and Pharr of Arizona back then, not to mention good ol’ Fredericks of Hollywood….:)
Really was another world out there. Great group of guys. And nice tone to the photo.

DeleteMay I mess around with these studs?

Gays have a history of pushing the fashion limits when it comes to swimwear and underwear.

DeleteRight. We wouldn't have seen them everywhere in the States, but Fire Island would have been different.
DeleteI agree with you. this photo is from the 1980s, but not from 1970

I doubt that this photo is from the 1970s, to me it’s the early 1980s
ReplyDeleteIt was dated by a website which focuses on Fire Island.
