Clackamas River, Oregon - 1942

In 1942 a group of men went on a fishing trip up the Clackamas River in Oregon.  Someone took a camera along, and we have a charming photographic record of the trip.  The most interesting pictures show the men washing up in the river.  I don't know what this solo bather is holding, but he's a well build man.  This one is worth enlarging if you can.

  1. This series makes me nostalgic for a trip I and two friends made to the Rogue River in Oregon last year. We didn't do any skinny dipping-the water was way too fast and too public-but it is a river of many personalities and is well worth extended exploration. -Dee Exx

  2. I spent my teen years on the Clackamas River. High school in a town on it. I didn't realize it had been so heavily logged at one time. The mountains were reforested until a huge fire wiped out a huge section of them a few years ago.
    Gorgeous up there.
Water is so freezing cold that I can't imagine going skinny dipping in it more than a few seconds.

    1. I think the fact that none of these guys is more than ankle deep in the water confirms your comment about its temperature.

  3. It's nice that someone did bring a camera to record these moments. They really are charming to see and the lack of inhibition is wonderful.

  4. My kind of trip, fishing, nature, good buds, not worried about stripping off here and there.

    1. Normal for the time, and that may be the best part.
