  1. I like the way the weeds act in counterpoint to the male. The foreground is bare, then there's our man, the the weeds. Very nicely done, IMHO.

    1. I agree. This is not what we ususlly think of as great composition, but it works by subtly accentuating the model.

  2. Whitman, like Oettinger, was a master of outdoor physique photography.
Whitman had the landscape of the Colorado Rockies and Oettinger the Great Lake shores of Michigan, and of course the physiquescape of many men….:)

    1. It's worth mentioning again that Don Whitman was not only a phenomenal artist as a photographer, but a very decent man who helped advance the bodybuilding careers of many of his models. They described him as an absolute gentleman who never even hinted at wanting sexual favors and always took their feelings into consideration. More than a few attended his funeral out of respect.

    2. Whitman was a class act.
The flood of 1965 in Denver just about wiped his business out and much of his early work was destroyed:( Fortunately his family and some of his models got the mess cleaned up and Whitman was back in business….:)

    3. I love the background info on Whitman, Jerry. Thx for that, and for today's whole series. Thx also to "Anonymous" for more interesting background.

  3. I have a couple of others from the same session, this shot in particular the setting works and shows him off splendidly.
