Backpack tech has come a long way. Remember those incredibly uncomfortable camping types from the 70's. I had one I called "the Backbreaker" that nearly killed me on a 12 mile mountain camping expedition into Big Bend National Park in 1974. This photo may not be that old, though.
Did they make watches like that in the 70's? I don't remember.
I can't say that I remember having "back pack" problems myself. This man looks like he might have been strong enough to cope, though
ReplyDeleteSo happy this guy is wearing proper attire that one needs while wearing a backpack. More hikers (male) should follow his example.
ReplyDeleteI believe there are some trails for nude hikers in the UK.
DeleteI can't remember the date of those watches - although this one is very familiar. In the early 70s, an American school fellow had one with Richard Nixon's face on the face. His eyes shifted from left to right with every tick-tock and below was the maxim "Honest Time".
ReplyDeleteI knew several people who had those "Tricky Dick" watches, and there were men's and women's versions.
DeleteI wish I had thought of and been gutsy enough to hike that way back when I could still do backpacking...
ReplyDeleteYou and a lot of others, I'm sure.
DeleteThis handsome young man is from the Gymnos video "Bare Ass Men" released in 1989. Gymnos was the video production company of Joe Tiffenbach. I posted all of the clips from this series of videos to my old blog. I will probably post them to my new blog so they stay in circulation.

Wow, that backpack was way out date for 1989, but I love the Joe Tiffenbach angle. Thanks for the info!
