Mechanic
I think this bearded aircraft mechanic on a 1945 carrier was going for a pirate look.
The Navy generally allowed them unless they were extreme. I recall safety issues with gas and oxygen masks being mentioned, but they were almost always tolerated by the Navy until 1986.
Harrrr! I wouldn't mind if he made some adjustments on my fuselage. What was the "official position" on having beards back then?
