Mid-Century Modern
The Mid-Century Modern look emphasized simple lines with minimalist elements. Today we will look at some models with furniture of the type. We start with John Silva by Dave Martin.
Well, Mr. Silva was a college student at the time, and that brick wall behind him makes me think of institutional architecture. Must have been a swank college if they had furniture that nice in a dorm.
I have another photo from this series by Dave Martin, which says "1964 - Arizona State College, Phoenix." It also says "Football, baseball, basketball." Seems like he was quite the athlete. With thighs like those, I'm sure he was in demand (as it were).
Glad you enjoyed the series, James! I had a friend who had some of that furniture that he kept getting reupholstered and restored for 40 years. His son still has it.
I like the pose here. Despite the furniture, there's a "college dorm" air about the male and the pose.

ReplyDeleteYour details are quite correct, thank you. I was too lazy to look up my photo of Mr. Silva with Dave Martin's note card superimposed.
DeleteGreat series today!
ReplyDeleteThe first time I saw this photo of John, I was in lust for chair. In fact, I still am!
