Boy next door

Who was it who said, "Youth is wasted on the young?"

  2. The problem is you have to make memories then. And the places which make your memories will in time be gone.

A mall where I saw Santa when I was 3 and would regularly go shopping until I graduated high school? Gone. My favorite drive-in? Gone. My schools? Gone for these post-Columbine Brutalist monstrosities. The old comic book shop? Gone, all four of them. Video rentals? All gone. The steakhouse I went to after my vision quest? Now a pizzeria and a cell phone store.

The pond where I first masturbated with the other boys is still there, but the trailer park where I first had sex isn't.

    2. Four years ago I revisited my alma mater, the University of Texas in Austin. Surprisingly, most of the changes on campus were additions, and just about all of my old haunts were still there. Most of the places just didn't feel the same, though. The exception was Gregory Gym where I saw Janis Joplin do an electrifying performance just a few months before her death. The morning after the show some of us went onto the gym stage looking for some souvenirs, even a bit of trash, but it had already been picked clean. Somebody had gouged out a little piece of the wooden stage floor, but I didn't follow suit. Forty-eight years later, the gouge was still there. Varnished over a few times, but still there, just like that little piece of my heart. RIP Janis.

    3. Reminds me of the time I grew up in Orange CA.
Born in 63 - Memories of our apartment on Prospect Ave 1972-1977 near the Con-Rock quarries (now a public park and quite a few town homes) The old elementary school is still there but due to the realignment of Prospect now on Variage St. (Prospect used to zig zag)
Santa Ana Fashion Square is now Main Place Mall and the Bullocks where my grandmother used to lunch at the Estrella room on occasion
is now Macy's. The shopping center at the corner of Prospect and Chapman is still there but the stores have changed. Then it was Albertson's, TG&Y five and dime, Key Rexall Drug, etc. Now its Stater Bros. a 99cent store etc. The Orange Drive-in where we saw movies and went to weekend swap meets- long gone! At that age too young to even think about sex, it was riding our Schwinn bicycles and tv-land with Gigantor, Speed Racer, Kimba the White Lion and Seymour -RIP -the local horror film host of Fright Nite on Saturday nights. (if you lived in the So-Cal 69-74 you know who he is). Trips to Disneyland, Knotts Berry Farm, Enchanted Village, Sea World and other places. Those memories are fun but it wasn't all fun - for I was terribly bullied at that dear school (and I was not the only one) and you never really heal from it. People who were bullied know what I'm talking about. Years later during a work break I would read the OC Register newspaper and see names of some of the bullies in the obits. Or through the years pass by them and sad to say they're still the bullies they were. Some people never change.

  4. Be still my beating heart!

As noted above, this handsome model is Bob Bishop. It's always a treat to see a picture of him, although this may just be outside your usual timeframe. Bob appeared in a couple of hardcore films for Falcon in the early '80s (Hayride and Ramcharger). Prior to that he had a very small role (credited under his real name) in the 1979 crime film Hardcore staring George C. Scott which was on general release.

Today he lives in Los Angeles and is working in property management. His photos on Facebook show him to still be an extremely handsome and fit looking man.

    1. Peter, I knew I was pushing my timeframe with this one, but exceptional material requires that exception be made. Thanks for the bio details!

    2. Bishop also worked as a bartender at the Blue Parrot in West Hollywood. Nicest guy you'd ever want to know.

    2. I'm not really a foot person but I have to agree that this is a hot foot ... and that Bob Bishop is the total package.

Nice to see that Mr. Bishop has received so many glowing comments. Looks like I'll have to get in the queue!
