19 naught something

I really like this painting by Patsaris Apostolos
that is only dated to the first decade of the 20th Century.

  1. I like the male's build...trim, but nicely defined. My Dad was built like that, but a bit more defined.

    1. I agree about the model's build being the element that draws us in to this one.

  2. There seems to be very little to nothing out there about this artist. I was interested in what school he belonged to because this is a very avant garde execution for the date, particularly in respect of the brush strokes of the background and the colours used.

    1. I also thought "avant garde" when I saw the date, and like you, I haven't been able to learn anything about the artist. All that comes up on searches are more copies of this lovely painting on gay themed blogs.

  3. I love the shot of salt and pepper in his hair. A very fine, mature, man!

    1. Yes, and unfortunately a one-off, as there don't seem to be any other works by this artist extant.

  4. Of the art work in this series, this looks the most contemporary, as if it could have been created yesterday. Artist not well known, probably because he came out of Greece. The smaller countries of Europe don't get the same respect in arts as their big brothers. When people think of Greek art they think of ancient Greece or El Greco, completely ignorant of latter artists.- Rj inthe IE

    1. So true about the smaller countries, particularly Greece.

  5. A rather fine mature and lived in physique. Inspiring for me...

    1. Yes, you could do that . . . and quite nicely!

    2. It's the touch of salt and pepper that does it. A body that has lived and worked, still rather magnificent...
