Trio
This undated trio appears to be on a dock. The fellow at left has an insignia on his suit
that is usually associated with track runners. Maybe it did double duty.
Amateur status was very strictly adhered to in international as well as national competitions and any form of advertising faced an outright ban. The only time individual team strips or badges were allowed was within club or team fixtures. I think we can therefore rule out these men as international competitors. I have had a look at the insignia but it is not one I am familiar with. But then, there were so many.

ReplyDeleteThese guys might have been part of a multisport American athletic club. The winged sport shoe has long been associated with runners in this country.
DeleteYup! That winged-sandal insignia is used by the New York Athletic Club (est. 1868), for one.
DeleteThanks for the specific reference, YFP.
