Tobruk 1941
Are those tight boxers or some other sort of underwear that the well built water bearer
is wearing? The scene is Tobruk in 1941 from the Australian War Museum.
I would imagine that those are underwear. The Aussies tended to have quite heavy duty underwear because of all the horse-riding. That is why the traditional cavalry twill used for Guardsman's jodhpurs is among the toughest of materials. It stops the chafing - which is perhaps why denim became popular among cowboys.

ReplyDeleteWe were always told the cowboys wore denim because it didn't wear out as easily as most fabrics. I guess comfort was a secondary consideration.
DeleteDefinitely my favorit picture of this great theme, military AND underwear! These two are very attractive! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteYou're quite welcome! The man holding the bucket is quite shapely.
