The year was 1954, and Mr. Orlovsky later became Allen Ginsberg's lover.

  1. It’s really quite nice and touching. Seems sensitive.

    1. True, and it makes me thing a little of some of Duncan Grant's work.

    2. Yes, I see what you mean about Duncan Grants work. Good eye.

  2. It was said that Ginsberg fell in love with the painting when he first saw it, and then with the subject when he walked into the room shortly after. And the rest is history.

    1. I scandalized my rural high school by doing my Senior English Honors term paper on Ginsberg. I had to drive some distance to a college library just to read his work, btw. I did all that research without finding out about Peter Orlovsky . . . and just barely managed to figure out that Ginsberg was gay. Despite my ignorance and the school's prejudice, I received an A and got to skip the first year of college English.

    3. I wasn't even sure about being gay myself, but by reading between the lines, I decided Ginsberg was. The girl I was dating at the time (yes, I dated girls in high school) was scandalized when she picked up one of the books I used as a reference. She did not, however, stop dating me.
