Warrior Sculptures II
Doing a second series today on warrior sculptures, starting
with this one from the Tomb of Warriors at Salamis, Greece.
Very interesting and beautiful series. It is interesting to note that the sculptures of men far outnumber those of women from antiquity into the present day. One can't help wonder why this gender gap exists. Perhaps there are many reason for this, but homosexuality might play an important role since many sculpterers were of that that orientation. Oscar Wilde is said to have said that art imitates/reflects life.

ReplyDeleteYou make some good points about an interesting subject. The preponderance of men is about more than having a male dominated society.

ReplyDeleteWell, that's what the Spartans thought for a good stretch of their history.
DeleteWonderful photos and series.
ReplyDeleteSurprised no one mentioned the cock shadow. Does it count if it’s a statue.
