Ed Fury
Russ Warner took this cover shot of Ed Fury for Adonis. Hint to the unitiated:
the words "art" and "male" together in a 1950's title or description translates as "gay."
Yes, Ed Fury was definitely one of the serious bodybuilders who didn't seem to mind at all where his images ended up - knowing fully well to what use they would be put.
It was also known, in the entertainment industry, that Ed was bisexual, a career limiting piece of gossip back then. I've read that he's still alive and in his 90's.

ReplyDeleteTrue. I'd love to read his memoir if he ever did one.

ReplyDeleteSome entertainers managed to succeed in spite of the gossip as long as they had good agents or other means to control the stories.
DeleteI remember him as one of the seabees in "South Pacific."
ReplyDeleteHe also appeared in a gym scene in the Gale Storm TV series "My Little Margie."
