Mr. America 1961


A triumphant looking Ray Routledge stands next to his Mr. America 1961 trophy.  He had to work extra hard because the judges at the time took off points for his tattoo.  In fact, his competition photos required extra skill on the photographer's part as they generally tried to hide it.

  1. Deep tan, too. Stinks that they penalized him for such a minor tattoo. They'd have coronaries today!

    1. I wonder if and when they abandoned that rule? I won't even look at current bodybuilder competitions because the men are grotesque.
