Fleau!
This gruesome 1901 painting is considered to be Henri Camille Danger's masterpiece.
The title is Fleau! which is usually translated as "Scourge!"
It's a bit counterintuitive because most such portrayals of destruction personified use ogres or hulking brutes. This guy looks graceful and limber, although he does have a giant club.
Awesome! Awful, terrifying. But awesome.

DeleteWell, one club is giant. The other is classically small, if you catch my drift.
DeleteCrazy. Almost contemporary looking... I suspect it has inspired several more recent works.
ReplyDeleteYes, modern and inspirational.
