It's been a while since we had a day of sculpture on the blog, and we start this series with
the first of three statues of Hercules in the group. (Yes, that's a lot, but he's very good looking.
And besides, I can't help it if he shows up in every third slot at the classical sculpture museums.)
He's shown, somewhat unusually, as a youth in this version.
I think the slaughtered Nemean lion is absolutely fabulously executed here. Heracles is far more notional. An odd combination.
