Washing up
These GIs are washing up in some sort of irrigation channel.
I really like these military posts, Jerry. And from tales I've heard, the military is still "looser" than civilian life. One friend told me that in Iraq, they'd strip down and bathe together if an opportunity arose. Otherwise, as in All ways, they went without.
When I was in the Army in the mid-60's I never gave being naked around other naked men any special thought. Now, if I were around naked men, I would WANT to feast my eyes on all those penises, but, of course, I had best not be found looking.
Which war? I can't think of any part of central Europe that had irrigation. Perhaps WWII Italy? The South was then very arid, before the onset of "desertification" which is now becoming a serious problem in Spain, the South of France and southern Italy.
