Nathan and Dave . . . oh so Classical

This duo of Nathan Kraemer and Dave Sheppard pretty much epitomizes the Classic style so typical of Lon's early work.  The column, the pose, and the oil are trademarks of both Lon and the 1940s.

  1. There is a lot of oil here, but it doe not, IMHO, detract from the shot.

    1. Oh, I agree. I'm not a huge fan of oiled models, but it really works here.

  2. Absolutely. Mr Sheppard's pose with his left arm and hand must not be misunderstood. It comes directly out of the Classical world and its evocation in art. What has been is what will be, and what has been done is what will be done, and there is nothing new under the sun. Ecclesiastes (Kohelet) 1:9.

  3. A stunning pair, their light defined musculatures are beautifully matched. I like the heavy oiling, implying polished marble. It is as if we are viewing a living Greek freeze. Perfection.

    1. Yes indeed, a frieze, and the oil really works in that visual context.
