The 1970s, Part 1 - Artistic Photography

When the floodgates of legal frontal nudity and all out porn opened up in the 1970s, a lot of crude and cheaply produced material came pouring out.  There were some people, however, who took the new freedom and raised it to an artistic level.  The first half of Friday's double feature shows off five photographers who managed to do this well.  The 1975 photo above of an unknown model is by Jim French of Colt.  Every element seems to have been thought out, and I think it is pure art.

  1. After looking at all the pictures in this series, I gotta say, this is my favourite. The sharp contrast between dark and light makes me think of shots I've seen of the Earth from space, where the terminator (the line between day and night) is visible. This is one cool photo IMHO!

  2. This is definitely my favourite in an excellent series. I think you are spot on, Jerry, when you say this is pure art. I love Big Dude's thoughts too. This really is a class apart and one of the best photographs you've featured. And I have add that the unknown model is stunning.

    1. Yes, I agree and especially like the way that even the textured wall combines with the shape of the model.

  3. I'm pretty sure that that's Mark Rutter; he was a Colt model around '81-'82.
