The 1930s were transitional in terms of male nude photography, with a mix of the earlier artistic study styles and more modern physique work. This slightly damaged 1937 photo of Bill Leardi is a good example of the latter and is believed to be by Al Urban. A much more built up Mr. Leardi appeared two years later on the cover of Strength and Health magazine.
Great reclining pose.
ReplyDeleteVaguely reminds me of The Great Sansone, but nowhere nearly so well-built. Leardi is a handsome devil. Where can a man see more photos of him?
ReplyDeleteI've only seen a few others, and they aren't as good as this one. Google Images search is your friend.
DeleteMy favourite in an interesting series. I don't know what the more built up Mr. Leardi looked like in 1939 but he looks really good here. He was a handsome guy too.

The quality of the '39 photo isn't that great, but he's noticeably bigger.
