Door knocker

For some reason, this photo shows up credited to Jim French rather than Colt.  Since Mr. French was Colt, I don't know what the difference might have been.  Does it predate Colt?  I don't think so, because that hair style is pure 1970s.  But I could be wrong.  I've been wrong before.

  1. The geometric anles of the door contrast beautifully to the smooth lines of the male. Jerry, I will dig around my old male magazines...it seems to me I remember seeing a number of pix attributed to French rather than Colt. My memory could be faulty, but if I find them, I'll forward them. A lot of the males were in bull rut, though.

  3. For what it's worth, I have a recollection of advertisements for a more mainstream coffee table type book of artistically done male nudes under the Jim French name.- maybe they thought that Jim French was a better mainstream name than Rip Colt - or maybe the publishing copyrights were divided for some reason.- just a guess

    1. I think you figured this out for us, thank you. Jim French did publish two coffee table books called "Man" and "Another Man" in 1972 and 1974 respectively. They were indeed more artistic and less overtly sexual than the Colt catalog, and both were published under his name only. My guess is that he wanted to differentiate them from the Colt brand which was considered by some to be pornographic at the time . . . something laughable by current standards.

  4. Model was Clyde Wallace, from his Colt Studio photoset. He also modeled in magazines as Clyde Dayton Wallace.

  5. I think this guy also modeled in IN TOUCH magazine--I recall a cover photo of him because his hairstyle was even more "swoopy" and rather comical viewed from nowadays. I'll try to dig it up.
