Reclining
Dale Curry looks good in almost any pose, but this reclining photo is a bit unusual for him.
The style makes me think of Kovert or Lyle Frisby, but it may not be either.
There's the tattoo! When did he work? Again, no offense, but he is circumcised, which was less common back then. Males born then (from the mid-to-late 40s onward) were routinely circumcised, but before that, not so much.
Circumcision thought - I have handwritten budget log that my great- grandmother kept in the early 1900s. One can see the entry where the family paid the doctor that delivered the babies. In the case a child was a boy - my grandfather and his two brothers - you see the additionally entry for the fee because “the baby was a boy”

ReplyDeleteWhat little dating I've seen of Mr. Curry's work is late 40s to early 1950s.

ReplyDeleteThis was in rural Indiana 1904-1910
Not sure how common but grandpa was cut :)
While far from as common as it eventually became, the practice was not at all unheard of in the early 20th C.
