Sandow had a gift for showing off his muscles without appearing massive or coarse.
This side view shows it, and was made in New York by highly regarded photographer
Napoleon Sarony. He did an exceptional series of photos of Sandow during an
extended stay in the city by the strong man. More about that in the next post.
The lighting really highlights his musculature well. I like the cheerful expression on his face, too. Is this pose the only profile shot that there is, do you know?
