Sherwood
This type of picture is what comes to mind when I think
of Don Whitman and Western Photography Guild. Fine models,
beautiful Western scenery, and excellent technical skill.
My favourite in an exceptional series. I love Don Whitman's outdoor photos - the beautiful scenery, vibrant colours, stunning models and excellent technical skill. Just the thing to brighten up anybody's day. Mr. Cartee is another keeper. Thanks, Jerry.
Don Whitman may well have not pressured his models to go beyond their comfort zone, but for the ones who wouldn't strip off - and those photographs for public consumption before full-frontal nudity was legal - he nevertheless gave his models some of the most supporting and small of posing straps which often exposed some pubic hair - remember when that existed? - and left nothing to the imagination.
I rather like this particular image of Sherwood Cartree. His boyish good looks and his clean cut image image are so apple pie and white wicket fences that the Harper Valley PTA would never, ever, once believed he earned an extra crust posing starkers so that men like me could "appreciate" his assets.
Part of Mr. Whitman's genius was knowing just how far he could go, both in terms of the law and his models' sensibilities. Sherwood Cartee never went full frontal for WPG that I know of, but he did for Denny Denfield in some photos where he looks older.
These kinds of pics with the really bright, "peachy" colors, reminds me of those early '60s View-Master reels that depicted nature subjects or areas of scenic bemusement. Mr. Cartee would have fit right in.

ReplyDeleteKodachrome film was a popular means of achieving such high color saturation in both slides and prints. I think it may well have been used here.
DeleteOh my, what definition!
