I recently learned that David Hurles, aka Old Reliable, passed away at age 78 on April 12 of this year. Click on his label at right for a previous series and some biographical information. When I posted that set in January, I got a larger than usual number of comments along with several requests for more of his work. Many of those comments mentioned a certain couch that is either iconic or notorious depending on one's point of view. One viewer said it should be in the Smithsonian, but I have a feeling the trash men tagged it as a biohazard when Mr. Hurles left it on the curb. All of today's photos will feature the couch, starting with this cover featuring Palestinian Sam.
I know someone who had that couch. No nude modeling or masturbation on it tho
ReplyDeleteI think most of us probably knew someone who had that couch. They seem to have sold a lot of them.
DeleteAll of these Old Reliable photos feature that Very Iconic Couch.
ReplyDeleteThe first communication I ever had with the moderator of this distinguished blog was my suggestion that the Old Reliable Couch should have been gifted to the Smithsonian Institute as a very genuine replica of Mid Century Modern Arts & Culture. Remember??? lol lol xoxo
I remember hearing a few years ago that the Infamous Plaid Couch had been donated to a San Francisco LGBTQ archive.
DeleteOf course, I remember your comment! My reference to the Smithsonian came straight from you, rufbeedeadsd.
Delete@Randy: I hope they had a lot of Lysol on hand.
DeleteUm, it's rufbeefDADsd not dead. Still alive here. xo
DeleteOooops! Sorry about that.
DeleteHis step great grandfather Henry Hatfield 10 March 1860 – 9 January 1938 is a distant relative. I'll post links next week. In the meantime, Internet searches for David Randolph Hurles SEPTEMBER 12, 1944 – APRIL 12, 2023 will provide many obituaries and biographies.
ReplyDeleteYes, quite a few obits.
