Wave

Not the greatest wave, but at least he's getting a ride.

  1. How common was it for males to surf in the raw? Were these beaches exclusively male?

    1. Nude surfing was and is rare because nude beaches are not to be found just anywhere, plus a significant portion of nude beaches do not have good waves for surfing. The lucky few would not have been exclusively male. A lot of these photos were taken on the sly, however, at places where nudity was not the norm.

  2. Profiting from the unattached pronoun, I remember a whole series of risqué bumper stickers from way back when: "Surfers do it standing up" and then there was "Surfers do it lying down". I really have no preference what position surfers are in, provided they do it.

    1. In my travels, I've been surprised how often the conversation turns to surfing when people find out I am from Hawaii. This has particularly been true in Scotland, Cornwall, and the Atlantic coast of France, places where the sport has been gaining in popularity.

  3. Tofino on the west coast of Vancouver Island is very popular with surfers. Unfortunately the water is chilly so neoprene suits are necessary.

    1. Same in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland. Beautiful beaches, great waves, and very cold water.
