Marcus and Faustina
This is Marcus Aurelius and Faustina Minor as Mars and Venus.
There is a lot going on here. It’s impressive and visually perplexing at the same time to me. Maybe it’s just the contrast of her dress and his body. Not sure. Her head does match the style of the male statue.

ReplyDeleteThe draping of the Faustina's robe is exquisitely detailed, but the fall doesn't exactly match gravity. Of course, most of us were looking at Marcus.
