Mark One Studio of Montreal - Part 1

Alan B. Stone was a Montreal photographer who set up Mark One Studio in the basement of the home where he lived with his mother and sister.  At the time he was active in the 1950's and early 60's, Canadian physique photographers faced much the same hostile legal and social climate as their peers in the USA.  As a result, frontal nudes by Mark One are very rare.  This is Johnny Kent.

  1. There's a terrific documentary titled "Eye on the Guy: Alan B. Stone & the Age of Beefcake" which is about Stone's career in Montreal. A number of models that he photographed back in the day are interviewed as mature men, and some of them still look pretty darn good. The film was released in 2006 and is a pleasure to watch.

  2. I watched it on "Kanopy" which is a streaming service that's free to many university and library employees, but may also have subscription packages. It is PACKED with documentaries, foreign movies, great B films, independent cinema, etc. It doesn't have original programming, but puts sites like Netflix to shame in the sheer quality and amount of its offerings. IMHO.
