Roy Dean published A World of Nudes in 1975, but this photo has a strong Star Wars vibe.
That epochal movie didn't come out until 1977, so either there is a remarkable coincidence or my usually impeccable source was wrong on this being in that particular Dean book.
Maythe 4th be with you. I like the lighting. His legs are tanned, but they're also in shadow, so they look darker (maybe?). His pecs and arms almost glow, but they don't look like they've been oiled. Cool shot. Thanks, Jerry, and again, may the 4th be with you.
ReplyDeleteAnd the 5th, too!
DeleteSexy man; eerie photo. My mind does go straight to Star Wars. It would be cool to know what influenced Dean to do this. It would be even cooler to discover that he was familiar with Lucas, somehow.
ReplyDeleteI just now noticed that he is holding a scabbard, something the light sabers in Star Wars didn't have. Still, we have to wonder. Maybe it's an allegorical "Sword of Truth" or such.
DeleteWhy not make it a whole week? Revenge of the Sixth, I am the Seventh, etc.
ReplyDeleteMost likely he was thinking of Flash Gordon, which heavily inspired Star Wars (as well as the Flash and Hawkman). Toss in some Kurosawa, some LOTR, and some Dollars, and you're in a galaxy far far away...
Now why did Lucas have to lift from a movie as racist as the Searchers?
And don't forget "Flesh Gordon." I never liked the Searchers, even as an utterly unenlightened kid.
DeleteWow...this is superb. Imagine a naked super hero.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure somebody somewhere had done a porn film along those lines . . . and probably with really crappy special effects.
DeleteHa, yes, with a dreadful punning title.
DeleteNoticing the shine on the saber. Looks like an outside light source reflecting the light. imho.
ReplyDeleteWhatever it is, it also lights up his hair in a interesting way.
