Six-pack
It's somewhat unusual to see a reclining model with a staff, but it works here.
Disclosure: I removed yellowing and increased contrast to show off his six-pack.
Oops. The lighting brigs out his shoulders, torso, and thighs. Despite being less lit, his abs show nicely. But his face looks like it has coal dust on it.
Wow...what a pose. I'm not sure if the staff is, in some way supported so he can stabilise himself. Not easy, perhaps just held for the length of the exposure to be used for drawing from the photograph?
His abs are remarkably well defined. The lighting is better here than in the other pictures, I think.
ReplyDeleteI altered the lighting electronically. See disclosure.

ReplyDeleteDurieu had a working relationship with the artist Delacroix, so your supposition about drawing (or painting) from the photo is spot on.
