Vintage or Not?

Closing the series with a man and a cat in a photo that I've never been quite sure was really old.
Or if it is really old, how old?

  1. I think I see why you aren't sure if this is vintage, but despite that male detail, it has a "classic" aura about it.

    1. I have come across several photos that were modern, but made to look Classic. One guy even did a whole slew of von Gloeden knockoffs that were pretty close to the originals.

  2. I wonder if the cat even meant to be in the picture. You can see quite a bit of body hair and a good depth of field that might make it newer that it appears. The eyes have a slight "haunted" look that I've seen from early pre panchromatic works. So...I'm not sure, but I do like the pose, slightly naughty, especially with his "engorgement".

    1. There is indeed a lot to like there, and you summed it up quite well.

    1. Google says they were around as early as the 1950s, but did not become popular until the late 1960s. So your dating is pretty spot on. The photographer who took this photo was born in 1937, so it's a fairly safe assumption that it was made no earlier than the 1960s, possibly much later.
